NOTE: THE FOLLOWING IS AN EMAIL FORWARD I RECEIVED, THE VIEWS
EXPRESSED HERE ARE NOT SHARED BY THE ADMINISTRATORS OF POOPSHUTE.

This is an editorial written by an
American citizen, published in a
Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!

! IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we
are
offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks
on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority
of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled
when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the
possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against
immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a
better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely
made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things
that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some
born here, need to understand This idea of America being a
multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and
our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own
society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been
developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by
millions of men and women! who have sought freedom.

We speak
ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian,
or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our
society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national
motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We
adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian
principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented.

It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God
offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

***The sender of this email and I had some words over this, here is my reply to her last email.***

With
regard to the "patriotic" email discussion we had, I am more than a
little insulted. First off, you say you see more "as an adult." Meaning
what? I'm 24 years old. I am young, certainly, but I am an adult. I
read books, I read the news, I vote.

And you mention these mexican people near you not wanting to learn "THE"
language as if I wouldn't know anything about it. That is a way bigger
issue here than it is in Chicago. You might have "Little Mexico" near
you, but we're two hours away from Big Mexico here.

There are
many problems with the demand that all immigrants learn english. First
of all, they will most definitely be coming here for work, and they
will find it. They will work long, hard hours, and in many cases at
multiple jobs. They have bills to pay and kids to feed just like you,
but their options are extremely limited for work. With this kind of
schedule how and when are they supposed to spend time on learning
english? It's not that they refuse, it's a question of logistics. See
the cycle there? As an immigrant you can't get a good-paying job
because you can't speak english, but then you can't
learn english because you have to work your lousy-paying job(s) so much.

Also, you mention many Hindus you've met that are so "anti-america." This seems strange to me.

You
and I will agree that Hindus are generally not terrorists. The ones who
come here to hijack planes and crash them into buildings are from
certain extremist sects of Islam. Right?

Okay, so if these
Hindu people are so "anti-america" then why did they come here in the
first place? If they are not here to infiltrate and destroy and they
are not here to live a happy productive life then why do they stay?

Besides
all that, whatever happened to the idea of the melting pot? This land
was supposed to be a place where any people could come and live in
peace with their own ways. So long as they follow the laws and become
productive members of society. Which brings me to a very important
point:

AMERICA HAS NO OFFICIALLY DECLARED LANGUAGE.
That's right, no documented official language here. So any demand for
anybody to "learn the language" is meaningless. There is no "THE"
language.

This is why the email you sent bothers me, and these are the reasons why I can't "accept and respect your beliefs."
If any belief, when put into practice, would cause a direct
negative impact to ANYONE's life (especially an entire people, in this
case the immigrants) it is not something I consider acceptable or
respectable. What I mean is, if people like the guy who wrote that
original email had their way, these immigrants would have alot of
trouble on their hands... or
more trouble, as the case seems to be.

Call
me a hippy, call me a bleeding-heart, but these are the facts as I see
them. I'd like to see you support your family while simultaneously
becoming fluent in a foreign language AND doing all that alongside
people with hostile attitudes towards you. This email, for example is
thinly veiled hate, plain and simple.

The God Thing

I'd like to point out why it's funny that "In God We Trust" is our national motto. It is on our money, but do you know why or when it was put there? It wasn't our founding fathers if that was your guess.

Our nation's original motto was written by John Adams, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson and was "e pluribus unum" which translates to "from many one."
In God We Trust first showed up on money in the 1860's. Then, in the
1950's Joseph McCarthy went on a witch-hunt against communism in this
country. There was a common misconception that all communists were
atheists, so when the bill to change the nation's motto came up in 1956
nobody would oppose it for fear of being black-listed. So it passed.

How do you feel about the nation's motto now?

Also,
many of our founding fathers were not Christian. Thomas Jefferson, for
example, was what's called a Deist. That means he believes a higher
power created the world, but then sat back to watch and takes NO ACTIVE
ROLE. Even those that were Christian were never in favor of a Christian
nation in any way shape or form. The information is out there, in their
own words. Look it up.

I don't remember his exact words, but here's a paraphrase of a Ben Franklin quote: "One
day the idea of Jesus being born from a virgin womb will be just as
preposterous as the idea of Athena springing from Zeus's forehead
."

Hehe. I imagine I will be seeing many comments on this one.
