Sometimes A Quote Works Best
Recently it came to light that John Edwards had an affair. You may or may not have noticed, but he quickly vanished off the radar after that, and made no appearance at the Democratic National Convention.
Whether you liked Edwards for president or not, you have to respect that he was a major voice against the financial inequalities in this country. He was the greatest champion of the poor and economic reform in politics today. No matter if he was destined to wage this struggle from the senate or in the White House, he had a lot of good things to say. Bill Maher had this to say on his behalf, and I thought it was so perfect that I had to share.
"Edwards is a man and he made a mistake. And... well, you know, a baby. And because of that there are some things he did not get to say at the convention. Like the top 1% of people in America have more money than the bottom 150 million people, and the gap between rich and poor is wider than it's been since the great depression.
"But the Democrats are so afraid of being the 'adultery party' that they missed yet another opportunity to be the 'adult party.' The one that says loudly and proudly 'we don't care whose wee-wee goes into whose hoo-hoo.' Our society is quick to chastise men who think with their dicks, but sacrificing a major voice on a big issue on the altar of puritanism; isn't that just as stupid as thinking with your dick?
You know some presidents who had extramarital affairs? Kennedy. Eisenhower. Roosevelt. Jefferson.
You wanna know a president who never had an affair? George W Bush.
That fact alone aught to make you want to elect Ron Jeremy."
