Rocky Horror Show

Sound designing for a big paycut. I'm making $100 on this one, which is exactly 10% of what I made on the last gig. Meh. I'm doing a favor for a friend, really. Besides, I love this job!

I love it when a director makes a request in really bizarre terms. The goofier the language he uses, the more room for creativity and fun I have. I get to make whatever craziness he just described to me. So far, nearly ever show has allowed me some room for a big creative build, and this one is no different.

On meeting the director I got notes like a request for some "sci-fi cheddar cheese" for the scene where Rocky is born. I made some ambient mad scientist lab gobbledy gook that is fun as hell with burbling beakers and sparking machinery.

He also asked for the sound of "a gremlin in a microwave" for the death of Eddie. Let's just say the foundation for this one was the sound of bacon frying.

The best part is at the end of the show, the house itself takes off and flys into the sky like a rocket, ferrying the surviving aliens back to their home-world of Transexual Transylvania. Building that was a LOT of fun. Nuclear explosions, and the weird and warbly noise of a spaceship as it speeds off into the night.

Good times.
