A Rare Connection

I have been rocking out in the gym again, but the morning power walks are still limited to two to three days a week. Better than the zero I had been doing in recent weeks, but still not every day.

This morning I had a really nice moment with a complete stranger. I find so many people this day and age would rather put on the earbuds, stare at the ground and pass you by without so much as a look in the eye. It's disheartening for someone like me who loves new people and socializing. But, what are you gonna do, right?

Well, this morning I was about a quarter of the way through my powerwalking lap of the complex and I passed a little older guy (probably in his mid to late sixties, I would guess) and I waved. To my surprise he very cheerily responded with a big smile and a boisterous
"good morning!"

I continued on my way around the complex, making my usual full lap, and apparently he was dooing the same thing, in the opposite direction, because I passed him again on the other side. This time he gave me funny grin and a tone that sounded like a James Bond villain's voice "So, we meet again!" We both laughed as we passed.

I love moments like that. I love those rare brief connections that in the long-run don't really effect things, I mean, other than passing on morning walks, I may never see that little old guy again, but in the here-and-now moments like those can't help but bring a smile to your face. It was a great way to start the day.
