A Most Bizarre Coincidence

Today Meg and I got a postcard from Hawaii. Meg's parents are in Hawaii right now, so it seemed perfectly plausable that they could have sent us a postcard. When I pulled it out of the mailbox it was writing-side-up, so after noting where it was from, I read it.

Hi kids,

Papa and I wish you were here with us. You would just love the ocean and the beautiful flowers. We have lots of pictures. And we found a Kingdom Hall!

Love you!

Okay, neither Meg nor her Mom have ever referred to her Dad as "Papa" but, maybe she's being silly. Hmmm. Meg's Mom being silly? That's way out of character for her. Don't get me wrong, she's a great lady, very classy, and even makes a joke from time to time, but silly is not a word I would ever use to describe her sense of humor. Not ever.

Oh well, maybe she was drunk. :) Woo hoo! Good for her. Cutting loose a little.

But what the hell is a "Kingdom Hall"?

Then I noticed who the card was addressed to. It reads "To The Brown Children @" and then our address. Again, strange. But, again; maybe she's drunk.

So, then I flip the card over to look at the picture. This is what I saw.

Apparently it was not Meg's Mom. And apparently some kids with the last name Brown have senile old grandparents who are in Hawaii and don't know their grandkids address. And as to whether or not this lady was drunk; sadly, I'll never know. Oh well.

When I told Meg this story and showed her the card she told me that these people must be Jehova's Witnesses. Apparently they call the place where they have services a Kingdom Hall. And apparently they have one in Hawaii. Weird. Allthough, if I had to walk up and down a street pounding on doors trying to force people to see God my way, I'd have to say Hawaii would be a pleasent place to do it.
