My Best Audition Ever!

Yesterday I walked into an audition for a gig that will be shooting in Rome, Italy for a week. It pays $1000 flat rate, plus travel accommodations and a per diem while we're there.

I listened to the director tell me a little bit about the character/story, like I usually do. Then I did my thing. I gave my reading.

The second I finished my read the director grinned and shouted "Holy shit! I've been waiting for somebody to do that all goddamn morning. That was great, Joe!"

I chuckled a little, kind of embarrassed by the best compliment a director has ever given me. "Thanks."

Then he went on to ask me how old I am. You're not generally supposed to discuss your actual age with industry people, because it can color how they see you. Your age range might be 20 to 30, but if you tell them you're actually 28, they might not be able to see you as 20. He saw my hesitation and eased my mind. "Don't worry" he said "It doesn't effect your chances, and it's just between you and me."

"Twenty-eight." I told him. He was excited again.

"Holy shit! Really? I was guessing twenty or twenty-one. You've got a real baby face."

Then he instructed me to come back on Monday afternoon at 3 pm, and from now til then I am not to shave at all. He wants to rugged me up a little bit and age me before I meet the producer.

So, I am the "director's choice" for the role, he just needs to get the producer's approval.

Best audition ever!

Oh, and when I was walking back to my car, I passed this guy on the street:

I know, he's not exactly an A-list, but it's my first celebrity spotting. He's certainly more of a celebrity than you or I. You may remember him from such films as Romeo and Juliet 1996, or The Thin Red Line.
