Teeth

Early this evening I will be getting my wisdom teeth pulled. I know it may be a little childish, but I'm kinda scared. No, not kinda. I'm really scared.

Not only is it that irrational fear of the dentist chair that many of us suffer from, but a friend of mine recently told me that she had a rare complication when she got hers pulled.

Apparently, some insanely small percentage (way less than one whole percent) of people who get a wisdom tooth pulled lose feeling in a part of one of their lips. The network of nerves in the jaw and mouth are all intimately connected, and sometimes permanent damage is done by accident during extraction.

She had hers pulled about ten years ago, and the left half of her lower lip is still totally numb. I know the odds are way in my favor on this, but still, there is the irrational dentist fear compounding it.

There's only one person who could make me feel better. That person was supposed to take me today. At this point I'm guessing that they don't even remember. My mom has graciously rearranged her schedule so that she could take me instead. Mom's are good for making one feel better too... but it's not the same.

I'm still more than a little scared.
