Dear dairy

Abigail leaned slightly into the cool breeze and closed her eyes to the full moon. She thought to herself that it was a beautiful night, and truly it was.

Her sisters were snoring all around her, but Abigail wondered at how they could sleep on a night like this! Oh well, it was just that much more special because it was hers and hers alone. Nobody around to mess with her beautiful night. Perfect.

She took a deep breath. So pretty.

Suddenly and abruptly her reverie was interrupted by a low thud, a scream that had to be her sister Bessie's voice, and raucous laughter followed lastly by running footsteps. She started charging before she opened her eyes. She knew what happened.

She saw her targets midfield and was making a beeline right at them. Closer and closer she got. She ran much more swiftly in her anger than these two chuckling teenagers could run in their mirth. Just about there... damn. They hopped the fence. No following them now.

Having been foiled, Abigail stomped her way back to her sister trying to vent her impotent rage. Why those boys did that sort of thing, she would never know. Why was it so funny to knock over poor defenseless people in their sleep? Honestly.

She checked on Bessie to make sure she was alright. Bessie was fine. Bruises to her rump and ego, but she would live. Abigail comforted her sister until they both drifted off to sleep.

Some hours later, Abigail was awakened by a strange humming noise, and more voices. Ready to charge again, she threw open her eyes, every muscle tensed. Oh great, she thought, not these guys again too! She never understood how these little men came out of the sky, or why they would come here to take away her sisters, but she did understand she was powerless to stop them.

"Why do we keep coming here for these things anyway? I mean, look at those other funny-looking things...what's-it-called...humans! They are much more advanced."

"No. The humans are silly and waste too much time on their meaningless pursuits. All that building up and tearing down and whatnot. No no, they have too much to prove."

"So, what is so special about these creatures?"

"Look at them. That quiet dignity. That tolerant passivity towards ALL other life, unless directly provoked. These creatures know something. They know the meaning of life, the secrets of the universe."

Abigail laughed to herself. The meaning of life? She didn't care about that, all she wanted was to be left alone to enjoy this beautiful night. Her night. Hers and hers alone and here it was being ruined again.

"All right, well just pick one and let's get outta here."
