Is This What Passes For News?!?!?!

AAARRRGGHH! I've said it before and I'll keep saying it until I'm blue in the face. I am SOOOOOOO sick of Jennifer Lopez. We've seen more market saturation of her face than even poor Huey Lewis in the 80's.

Let's see; there's movies, cd's, music videos, talk show appearances, a perfume line, a clothing line, concert tours, magazine covers, newspaper articles, books, posters, radio play...did I miss anything?

What I'm really waiting to see if they do J-Lo chewable vitamins or a line of J-Lo feminine hygiene products.

Amazingly, even after all this I've learned to mostly ignore her. Sort of like the big walking monster billboards in that old Simpsons Halloween Special.

You know, Paul Anka wrote that jingle "Just don't look! Just don't look!" If we all listen to those wise words, J-Lo will shrivel up and fade away like the Simpsons over-grown icons did.

I wish.

The reason I'm writing this bitter rant is because I just read the FRONT PAGE STORY (on the BBC no less!) that J-Lo's mom, Guadalupe Lopez, hit a big win at a casino. $2.4 million. Okay, great. Wonderful. Good for her.

You think if my mom wins big at a casino that it will make front page news IN THE UNITED KINGDOM!?!?! Nope. And with good reason.

The thing that made me laugh out loud was that the woman plans on socking it away for her grandchildren's college fund. While that is admirable, it hardly seems necassary. Accordingtothe article J-Lo herself apparently made $30 million dollars last year alone, and is ranked number 5 in celebrity power status by Forbes magazine. I don't think any of her kids or nieces or nephews will have to worry about college money.

I say live it up old lady G-Lo. I'm sure you're not wanting for anything either, but still, enjoy yourself. Spend your new found riches on something for you. Or if the Catholic guilt of enjoying life is too much for you, then donate some of it to a deserving charity or something.

All in all, I think we've learned something today boys and girls. We learned that no matter how rediculously wealthy one's family gets, God still blesses you with even more gratuitously large amounts of money. Translation = The rich get richer.
